MORGAN — A motorcyclist died on Saturday near Morgan as traffic backed up due to the ongoing Broad Fire.
According to the UTAH HIGHWAY PATROL, the incident occurred as an SUV, stopped in traffic, was struck by a truck, causing the SUV to collide with a motorcycle and another vehicle. The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released.
The Broad Fire, which ignited on Saturday in Weber Canyon close to South Weber, has burned approximately 134 acres and is reported to be 50% contained as of Sunday evening. The fire is situated on the south side of Interstate 84, near the Weber River. While a passing storm did not produce rainfall on the fire, increased humidity aided firefighting efforts.
Authorities advise drivers to remain cautious when navigating the area, especially with Labor Day weekend traffic. As of Sunday night, both lanes of eastbound I-84 were open, while only one lane was available for westbound traffic.
“Please no stopping, slowing, or pulling over,” Utah Fire Info stated. “There is fire traffic and crews in the area. Drive slowly and attentively to avoid accidents.”
