Motorcyclist Killed in East Bay Collision Involving Tesla.

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a Tesla on westbound Interstate 80 near the Powell Street exit in Emeryville on Tuesday at 6:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim, identified as Mark Crawford, a city worker with Oakland’s Keep Oakland Clean and Beautiful Team, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tesla driver was uninjured, and authorities reported no suspected involvement of drugs or alcohol.

Crawford had communicated with his supervisor approximately 30 minutes before the crash, indicating he would be late for work. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but despite efforts, Crawford could not be revived.

Crawford, 17 years old and hearing-impaired, was known for his dedicated work cleaning up illegal dumping and assisting with homeless encampments. Tributes flooded social media from classmates at the California School for the Deaf and fellow motorcycle club members.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No arrests have been made, and lane closures were in effect during the response and investigation.
