Motorcyclist killed in Tunnel Road crash in Asheville.

A motorcyclist died following a crash on Tunnel Road in Asheville on July 3, prompting an ongoing investigation.

The Asheville Police Department responded to the 200 block of Tunnel Road around 9 p.m. for a report of a serious injury crash.

Authorities said a Yamaha motorcycle, operated by 21-year-old Justin Tyler Evans, was heading west on Tunnel Road “at a high rate of speed” when it collided with a 2020 Dodge Journey making a left turn onto Buckstone Place.

Both Evans and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle and sustained critical injuries. They were transported to Mission Hospital, where Evans was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the TIP2APD smartphone application or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.

This incident marks the second fatal motorcycle crash in Asheville within a week, following the death of a 20-year-old motorcyclist in a separate collision on July 1 at the intersection of Hendersonville Road and Turtle Creek Drive.
