New Braunfels Announces Exciting Developments in Local Community Initiatives.

City Councilmember Labowski Advocates for Preservation of New Braunfels’ Cultural Heritage

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX — District 5 Councilmember Mary Ann Labowski emphasized the importance of preserving New Braunfels’ rich cultural heritage in a recent statement. Labowski, a lifelong resident, highlighted the city’s diverse history and the newly adopted Arts & Culture Master Plan aimed at supporting local artists and honoring the community’s traditions.

Labowski, who has lived in New Braunfels for 61 years, reflected on the city’s transformation from a small town to a vibrant community, stating, “The heart of New Braunfels — our culture, our traditions, our music — remains unchanged.” She expressed the necessity of including all cultural narratives in the city’s story, noting the historical contributions of Indigenous peoples, German immigrants, Tejano families, and African American communities.

The Arts & Culture Master Plan, adopted by the City Council this spring, provides a roadmap for enhancing local arts, historic preservation, and cultural programs. It focuses on community engagement, visibility, and effective operations.

Labowski also encouraged residents to engage with their cultural heritage by participating in festivals and community events. She emphasized that preserving culture is a collective responsibility, urging residents to learn from each other’s stories and traditions.

“For generations, families came together to celebrate our community,” she stated. “Every story matters. Together, they tell the story of New Braunfels.”

Labowski concluded her message with an invitation for residents to learn more about the Arts & Culture Master Plan, which she believes is key to maintaining the community’s identity as it grows.
