Fatal Motorcycle Crash on State Route 8 in Ohio, NY
OHIO, NY — A fatal motorcycle accident occurred on State Route 8 on August 18, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m.
According to the New York State Police, a 21-year-old male from Wolcott, NY, was riding a 2026 Yamaha motorcycle northbound when he failed to navigate a right-hand curve. The motorcycle crossed into the southbound lane, colliding with a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by James E. Day, 47, from Ontario, Canada.
After the impact, the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a tree. The operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities reported that a Drug Recognition Expert assessed the driver of the tractor-trailer and determined he was not impaired.
