LACONIA MOTORCYCLE WEEK EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN OHIO
LACONIA, NH—Charlie St. Clair, Executive Director of Laconia Motorcycle Week and New Hampshire State Representative, sustained life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash on I-90 in Avon, Ohio, on Tuesday at approximately 7 p.m.
According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, St. Clair’s motorcycle experienced a rear tire blowout while traveling westbound in the center lane, leading him to lose control of the vehicle. Witnesses reported that a friend riding with St. Clair observed him attempt to maintain control of the 2000 Harley Davidson before crashing near an on-ramp.
St. Clair was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he remains in serious condition and has not regained consciousness, according to Jenn Anderson, Director of Laconia Motorcycle Week. She indicated that he suffered substantial multiple injuries and that medical personnel are monitoring swelling before further treatment.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and there were no additional injuries reported. Three nurses who were nearby at the time provided immediate assistance following the crash.
St. Clair has a history of motorcycle incidents; in 2013, he suffered significant injuries after hitting a mule deer in Nebraska, but Anderson stated that this crash is more severe.
Charlie St. Clair has been involved with Laconia Motorcycle Week since 1991, promoting the rally by riding across the country. The 86th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally begins today and runs through August 16. Anderson estimated that St. Clair was about one-third of the way to Sturgis when the crash occurred.
