Fort Collins Police Continue Investigation into Fatal Pedestrian Strike
Fort Collins, CO – Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on August 29, 2023, in Old Town Fort Collins, but have yet to identify the driver involved.
Joshua Robert Douglas, the pedestrian, was struck by a pickup truck with Wyoming plates that hopped a curb. The driver, described as an older man, has not been publicly named or charged as police gather evidence and assess the circumstances of the incident.
According to Fort Collins Police Services, the investigation into this serious injury crash is ongoing and will take longer than usual due to the complexity of determining potential impairment. Officer Brandon Barnes noted that these investigations require a thorough analysis, comparing them to homicide inquiries.
In addition to witness interviews, police are working with the Victim Advocate Team to support Douglas’s family and others affected. Toxicology tests, which could provide insights into the driver’s impairment, are sent to external labs, often resulting in extended wait times for results.
Authorities emphasize the necessity of a complete investigation before any charges are considered. The investigation remains active, and further details will be shared with the public once available.
