MALHEUR COUNTY, Ore. — A collision between a motorcycle and a semi-truck on Highway 20 resulted in one fatality on Saturday, July 18.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP), John Platt, 67, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he attempted to overtake a Peterbilt semi-truck, which was making a left turn near milepost 255. The motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the truck.
OSP officials confirmed that Platt was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 70-year-old Yolanda Platt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The semi-truck driver, 24-year-old Victor Pena-Olvera, was uninjured in the incident.
The crash led to significant lane closures on Highway 20 for approximately two hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
