Motorcycle Crash Victim’s Family Seeks Justice in Franklin County
ST. ALBANS, Vt. — The family of Cody Paradee, who was killed in a motorcycle crash last summer, seeks answers during a courthouse protest on Feb. 24.
Cody Paradee, 32, died on Aug. 15, 2022, after a collision on Duffy Hill Road in Enosburgh. According to a Vermont State Police crash report, Paradee was traveling north when a 17-year-old driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign on Taylor Branch Road and struck his motorcycle.
Emergency responders transported Paradee to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day. The driver, who remains unidentified due to juvenile status, had two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
During the Feb. 24 protest, Lori and Jay Paradee expressed frustration at the lack of communication from officials regarding the case. “As far as we know, nothing is happening,” Lori Paradee stated. The couple held signs, including one that read, “This sign should have saved Cody.”
Investigators indicated possible charges of grossly negligent operation of a vehicle resulting in death, which carries a potential 15-year prison sentence. The Paradees have urged authorities to prosecute the driver as an adult.
Witnesses reported that one passenger in the vehicle warned of the approaching motorcycle just before the collision. Despite their efforts, the Paradees claim they have received little assistance from officials since the incident.
The case remains under investigation, with further developments awaited as the couple continues to seek justice for their son.
