Three Fatal Incidents on Route 95 in Rhode Island Early Sunday Morning

PROVIDENCE, RI – Three separate fatal incidents on Route 95 occurred early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, according to Rhode Island State Police.

The first crash happened at 1:31 AM on Route 95 North near Branch Avenue. A single-vehicle accident involved a car driven by 22-year-old Joseph Abreau from Providence, who was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene. Speed is suspected as a contributing factor, and the investigation is ongoing.

At 1:44 AM, a rollover crash near Exit 30 in Pawtucket claimed the life of 34-year-old Jennifer Toscano from Stoughton, Massachusetts. Toscano, an off-duty nurse, stopped to assist after the rollover when she was struck by a red vehicle that fled the scene. The driver, identified as Luis Baez, 22, from Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, was later apprehended and charged with multiple offenses, including DUI resulting in death. He is scheduled for arraignment in Providence District Court on Monday.

Finally, at 1:49 AM, another single-vehicle crash occurred near Exit 3 in Richmond. A 2015 Hyundai Sonata left the roadway, hit light poles and a tree, and caught fire. Good Samaritans rescued the driver, Brian Joseph Scacciaferro, 25, from Niantic, Connecticut, who was transported to Kent County Hospital but died from his injuries. Speed and alcohol are also considered contributing factors in this case.
