Rockland police responded to 10 crashes on Saturday, including a serious collision involving a motorcyclist on Park Street.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when a motorcycle and car collided, leaving a 20-year-old motorcyclist with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was transported to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the Knox County District Attorney’s Office was notified, and a Maine State Police crash reconstructionist is assisting in the investigation. No criminal charges have been filed at this time, but preliminary findings suggest that speed and operation of the motorcycle may have contributed to the crash.
Throughout Saturday, Rockland police reported responding to a total of 10 crashes, which included three serious property damage incidents and four injury-related crashes. At least five individuals were transported to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital for treatment.
Authorities are urging drivers to slow down, remain attentive, and prioritize safety while driving.
