Serious crash shuts down I-35/I-80 in Clive; motorists advised to seek alternate routes.

CLIVE, Iowa —

A crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle occurred on westbound I-80 and southbound I-35 Friday night, closing the roadway.

The Clive Police Department reported the incident took place at 7:52 p.m. between Hickman Road and University Avenue.

Authorities said the closure is necessary for an investigation and to manage hazardous conditions at the scene. The extent of injuries and the number of vehicles involved remain unconfirmed.

Westbound I-80 and southbound I-35 will remain closed while responders work. Traffic delays are expected, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, including Northwest 114th Street and Northwest 128th Street south from Hickman Road. Interstate 235 is also available for travelers from the Northeast Mixmaster.

This section of interstate is also set for an overnight construction closure, potentially extending the road’s closure into Saturday morning.

The Clive Police Department is leading the investigation, supported by the Iowa State Patrol, Urbandale Fire Department, and West Des Moines Police Department.

Further details, including the identities of those involved and the cause of the crash, have not been released. Authorities will announce when the interstate is reopened.

This is a developing story; updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
