Seventeen-Year-Old Girl Dies in Motorcycle Accident Near Elkton.

ELKTON, MD — A 17-year-old girl from Delaware died in a motorcycle collision near Elkton on Sunday at approximately 1 p.m.

The victim, a passenger on a Kawasaki motorcycle, was pronounced dead at an area hospital after the crash on Route 213 near Leeds Road. She was identified as residing in Wilmington, though police have not released her name.

The Kawasaki, operated by a 19-year-old man, was traveling southbound when it attempted to pass a Yamaha motorcycle headed in the same direction. The Kawasaki struck the Yamaha’s left side, prompting the collision, according to Maryland State Police (MSP).

The operator of the Kawasaki was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, while the Yamaha operator reported no injuries.

Emergency services closed a section of Route 213 for over an hour to facilitate an investigation by the MSP Crash Team, which remains ongoing as of Monday afternoon.

Following the incident, MSP officials emphasized the importance of safety for motorcyclists, urging them to increase visibility, wear appropriate gear, and practice defensive riding.
