VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcycle crash in Volusia County on Thursday afternoon resulted in one fatality and one critical injury, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on March 5, near Ormond Beach at the intersection of High Bridge Road and Walter Boardman Lane, coinciding with Daytona Bike Week activities.
According to FHP, a 64-year-old man from Wisconsin was operating a Harley-Davidson Heritage motorcycle westbound on High Bridge Road when he failed to navigate a curve, colliding with a Toyota Tacoma heading east. The motorcycle impacted the left side of the trailer attached to the pickup truck.
Both the motorcycle driver and his passenger, a 57-year-old woman, were ejected from the bike. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
FHP reported that neither rider was wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, a 65-year-old man from Palm Coast, stated he was unaware of the collision.
The Toyota Tacoma has been taken into evidence for further investigation. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
