A 62-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash involving a Jeep on US-2 in Moran Township yesterday afternoon.
The collision occurred around 12:20 p.m. when a Jeep driven by a 39-year-old man turned out of a restaurant driveway into the motorcycle’s path.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, sustained fatal injuries. Preliminary findings from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office indicate speed and alcohol were not factors. The driver of the Jeep was unharmed.
Emergency response included the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, St. Ignace Police, Michigan State Police, Straits EMS, St. Ignace Fire, U.S. Border Patrol, and MDOT.
The incident is still under investigation by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police accident investigators.
