ALBUQUERQUE — Fatal Motorcycle Crash on I-25 Under Investigation
ALBUQUERQUE — On June 6, 2026, at approximately 11:54 p.m., a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a car occurred on northbound Interstate 25 near Comanche Road.
New Mexico State Police responded after Albuquerque Police Department requested assistance at the scene. Emergency medical personnel transported the motorcycle operator, identified as Keegan Thomas, 24, to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing a 2013 BMW with significant driver-side damage consistent with the motorcycle. The driver, Danny Sanchez, 58, was located at the scene. Preliminary reports indicate both vehicles were northbound on I-25 when Sanchez’s BMW struck Thomas’ motorcycle from behind, ejecting him. The BMW continued until it became inoperable, at which point Sanchez pulled over.
Sanchez has been charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated DWI, and careless driving. Authorities believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, with the New Mexico State Police Vehicular Crimes Unit leading the inquiry.
