COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A 14-year-old was injured in a crash involving a gas-powered scooter and a vehicle on South Chelton Road on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the incident occurred around 5 p.m. north of Fountain Boulevard.
Authorities reported that the teen was illegally riding the scooter when he collided with a vehicle exiting a driveway.
The injured youth was transported to a hospital for treatment. There were no other reported injuries.
The roadway was closed briefly for an investigation but reopened by 5:45 p.m.
CSPD noted an increase in teens and pre-teens riding scooters and low-power motorcycles on city streets, which often lack necessary safety features.
Officials are urging the public to avoid using these vehicles on roadways, warning of potential legal consequences for those involved in accidents.
