CHARLOTTE — A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 85 South near Sugar Creek Road resulted in the death of a 17-year-old on Saturday, authorities said. The accident occurred around 7:35 p.m.
The crash involved four vehicles: a Mercedes, an Audi, a Hyundai, and a motorcycle operated by Alex Rodriguez. Initial reports indicate the Mercedes and Audi were speeding prior to striking both the motorcycle and the Hyundai.
The driver of the Mercedes was taken to Atrium Health Main with minor injuries. The drivers of the Audi and Hyundai refused medical treatment at the scene.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Further details on the crash and ongoing investigation were not available.
