ONEONTA, NY—Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Local Rider
A motorcycle crash on County Highway 48 in Oneonta on July 31, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m. resulted in one fatality.
According to the New York State Police, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 74-year-old man from Otego, was traveling west when a deer entered the roadway. The vehicle struck the deer, which then collided with a KTM motorcycle operated by 25-year-old Nathaniel T. Walker of Oneonta, causing him to lose control and crash.
Emergency responders, including Oneonta Fire and EMS, swiftly arrived on scene. Lifesaving efforts were initiated by a passerby and a New York State Trooper, following CPR instructions from an Otsego County 911 dispatcher. Walker was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, but there are no indications of foul play or impairment. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
