Two crashes claim the lives of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist.

Two fatal crashes in the Baton Rouge area on Friday resulted in two deaths and one arrest.

Louisiana State Police responded to the first incident shortly before 8 p.m. on LA Hwy 42 at Muddy Creek Road in Prairieville.

A 2007 Ford F-150 and a 2025 Yamaha motorcycle were involved; the motorcycle, driven by 20-year-old Matthew Shields, struck the truck as it completed a left turn.

Shields, a Prairieville resident, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead despite wearing a helmet. The driver of the Ford, 45-year-old Danny Tabor, was uninjured.

Tabor was arrested and booked into Ascension Parish Jail on multiple charges, including negligent homicide and failure to yield. Routine toxicology tests were conducted.

Earlier on Friday, around 12:45 p.m., State Police responded to a pedestrian accident on Plank Road near Rolling Acres Drive in Baker.

Seventy-three-year-old Hezzie McCaleb was walking on Plank Road when he was struck by a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado heading in the same direction.

McCaleb sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment is not suspected for the driver, and toxicology results are pending.
