CALUMET, Mich. – A multi-vehicle crash resulted in two fatalities in Calumet on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Michigan State Police, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. near Golf Course Road in Osceola Township.
Preliminary investigations indicate that an SUV, driven by a 45-year-old woman with children, was traveling south on US-41 when it failed to notice a stopped pickup truck turning. The SUV swerved into the northbound lane, striking two motorcycles.
The two motorcyclists, a 65-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from South Carolina, died at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services evaluated the SUV driver and children, who were released without serious injuries.
Authorities reported that Mercy EMS, Calumet Township Fire and Rescue, Michigan State Police, and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
