DANBURY — Two people were killed in a motorcycle crash on Sugar Hollow Road near the Danbury-Ridgefield city line early Monday, according to authorities.
At approximately 2:45 a.m., Danbury Police Department officers responded to the scene and discovered a severely damaged Jeep Compass and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle lying on the roadway. The operator of the Jeep was transported to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses reported that the two individuals on the motorcycle, identified as 38-year-old Cooper Whiteside from Danbury and 34-year-old Brittany Islami from New Milford, were found lying in the road and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Danbury Police Accident Investigation Team was dispatched for reconstruction and evidence collection. Sugar Hollow Road was closed for several hours, with detours advised via George Highway and Route 53. The road reopened to traffic around 1 p.m.
Authorities confirmed that Whiteside was a volunteer firefighter with the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, where he held several positions, including EMS and lieutenant.
The crash impacted traffic from Bennetts Farm Road in Ridgefield to Miry Brook Road, as stated by Danbury police. No further details regarding the accident’s cause are available as the investigation is ongoing.
