LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Fla. — A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 27 resulted in the deaths of a man and woman from Lake City Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. at the intersection with County Road 53, west of Mayo. Authorities reported that a pickup truck towing a boat entered the intersection, failing to yield at a stop sign. A motorcycle with two riders, traveling east on U.S. 27, collided with the boat.
The riders, identified as a 64-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the pickup truck were unharmed.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and further details will be released as they become available.
