LOS ANGELES — A police chase through the San Fernando Valley ended dramatically on Friday morning when a driver crashed into a California Highway Patrol cruiser.
The pursuit began around 10:30 a.m. when a black 2025 Honda Accord exited the 101 Freeway and evaded capture by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) units. The driver entered the 405 Freeway in Encino, heading northbound through North Hills with light traffic conditions.
Around 11 a.m., the driver exited the freeway in Mission Hills but then re-entered, making a U-turn to travel southbound on the 405. Witnesses reported the vehicle briefly stopped at a gas station at Nordhoff Street and Aqueduct Avenue before fleeing again.
At one point, an individual on a motorcycle reportedly engaged with the speeding car, attempting to assist in the situation. The chase continued into a parking structure on the Cal State Northridge campus before spilling back onto surface streets.
Around 11:30 a.m., the fleeing Honda was involved in a T-bone collision with an uninvolved vehicle at an intersection in Granada Hills. Following this crash, the suspect fled but experienced a tire blowout after possibly hitting a spike strip.
The pursuit culminated shortly thereafter when the Honda crashed head-on into a CHP SUV on the 405 Freeway. The driver attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by officers.
No information on injuries, fatalities, or any other occupants in the Honda has been confirmed at this time. The incident remains under investigation by authorities.
