YORK, S.C. (WBTV) – A three-car crash on US 321 Bypass in York resulted in one fatality and critical injuries on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency responders were dispatched around 12:20 p.m. to the intersection of US 321 Bypass and California Street following reports of the collision involving a motorcycle and two SUVs.
According to authorities, a man was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on US 321 with a passenger when the incident occurred. The motorcycle collided with a Ford Escape, whose driver stated he stopped at a stop sign before proceeding through the intersection.
The impact caused the Escape to strike a Ford Expedition, which was also stopped at a stop sign. Both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected from the vehicle; the driver suffered fatal injuries, while his passenger was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford Escape received a citation for failure to yield the right of way, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing. Lane closures were reported as emergency personnel managed the scene.
