TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) – A motorcycle accident early Friday morning resulted in the deaths of a former NFL player and a 20-year-old woman, according to Louisiana State Police.
Michael Dywane Jackson Dyson, 49, of Tangipahoa, and Destiny Alexus Gordon, 20, of Kentwood, were involved in the crash on US 51 at approximately 1 a.m. Authorities reported Dyson was riding a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed when Gordon, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, backed out of a parking space directly into his path.
The collision occurred when the motorcycle struck the driver’s side door of the Malibu. Both drivers died at the scene.
Troopers confirmed that Dyson was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, while Gordon was properly restrained. Investigators are examining blood samples as part of an ongoing investigation.
Dyson, known as Michael D. Jackson during his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, retired in 1998 after seven seasons. He also served as mayor of Tangipahoa from 2009 to 2013.
