West Monroe Woman Charged with Vehicular Homicide Following Fatal Crash

A West Monroe woman has been charged with vehicular homicide after a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 557, which occurred on Sunday night at approximately 9 p.m.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop F, the incident happened near Red Cut Road in Ouachita Parish. The preliminary investigation indicates that Amanda Fletcher, 36, was driving a 2009 Dodge Journey northbound when she crossed the centerline, colliding with a 1999 Honda Motorcycle operated by Ronald Smith Jr., 35, of Farmerville. Smith was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Fletcher, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered injuries and was treated on-site. Officials reported that she exhibited signs of impairment at the time of the crash and was subsequently arrested. She was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on charges including vehicular homicide, failure to wear a seatbelt, and improper lane usage.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Further details on lane closures or tows related to the incident have not been provided.
