STURGIS, S.D. (KOTA) – A two-motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 14A left a 46-year-old Sioux Falls woman dead on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred at 1:00 p.m. near mile marker 50, approximately two miles south of Sturgis, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Preliminary information indicates the woman was traveling eastbound on a 2013 Suzuki Gladius 650 when a westbound 2013 Victory Jackpot crossed the centerline and collided with her motorcycle.
The woman succumbed to her injuries; her identity has not been released pending family notification. The other rider, a 77-year-old man from Wrentham, Massachusetts, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital in Sturgis.
Both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, authorities said.
Eastbound lanes of Highway 14A were closed for approximately one hour as emergency crews responded and the scene was investigated.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident.
