HONOLULU – A 23-year-old man died early Monday morning following an electric motorcycle crash on Kuhina Street around 2:30 a.m.
Authorities said the man, who was not wearing a helmet, struck a parked truck and was thrown into the road, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash follows a similar incident two weeks prior, where a 15-year-old boy riding an e-motorcycle without a helmet died a few miles away on Kolowaka Drive.
According to Councilmember Augie Tulba, this is the fourth e-bike or e-motorcycle death in the district this year.
Tulba urged the public to follow safety regulations, stating that riders under 15 cannot operate electric two-wheelers, and helmets are mandatory for those under 18.
In response to rising concerns, cyclist Cameron Datanagan announced plans for an Ewa Bike Expo on Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ewa Elementary School to promote road safety among younger riders.
