A 15-year-old girl died in Port Huron after a collision involving her electric bicycle and a motorcycle, police said.
On Monday at 10:02 p.m., officers responded to the accident in the 2800 block of Electric Avenue, authorities reported.
Preliminary investigations indicated the girl was riding in the wrong direction when she was struck by the motorcycle. The motorcycle operator remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to police.
The girl was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries despite emergency personnel efforts, authorities said.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the young girl’s family,” Police Chief Brian Kerrigan said. “This is a devastating incident for everyone involved.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police encourage anyone with information to contact them at (810) 984-8415 or its Major Crime Unit at (810) 984-5383.
In recent weeks, other bicycle-related traffic fatalities have been reported in the region, including a child in Washtenaw County and a 46-year-old man in Pontiac.
According to Michigan State Police, 515 fatalities have occurred on Michigan roadways this year, with 17 reported in the past week. This marks a decrease of 23 fatalities and 43 serious injuries compared to the same period last year.
