A 29-year-old Waverly man died following a motorcycle crash on Carsley Road in Surry County on May 3, 2023.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident occurred around 1:58 p.m. near Route 40. A 2020 Suzuki 750 motorcycle was traveling southbound when the rider lost control, veered off the left side of the road, and overcorrected, leading to the motorcycle running off the right side and striking a ditch.
The driver, identified as Steve A. Smallwood Jr., was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. No other vehicles were involved.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
