Fire Weather Watch Issued for Western Nevada and Eastern Lassen County

RENO, NV — The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and low humidity in Western Nevada and Eastern Lassen County, effective Saturday from morning to evening.

The affected areas include Fire Weather Zone 278 in Eastern Lassen County, Fire Weather Zone 420 covering Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Southern Washoe, Western Lyon, and Far Southern Lassen Counties, Fire Weather Zone 423 in the West Humboldt Basin, and Fire Weather Zone 429 in the Lahontan Basin.

Winds are expected from the west at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Humidity levels will range from 8 to 15 percent, recovering to 30 to 50 percent overnight.

This watch is anticipated to last 4 to 8 hours, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. PDT Saturday. Authorities warn that the combination of strong winds and low humidity increases the risk of rapid fire growth, potentially overwhelming first responders.

Residents are advised to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Local fire restrictions should be followed. For updates, visit weather.gov/reno and check livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
