Flooding Risk Warning for North Central and Northeast Georgia
Excessive rainfall could cause flooding in several Georgia counties today, particularly in urban areas and regions with poor drainage.
Authorities said the warning affects counties in north central Georgia—Cherokee, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Hall, Lumpkin, Pickens, and Union—as well as Banks, Towns, and White in northeast Georgia. In northwest Georgia, Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield are included.
The warning is in effect through this evening. Flooding may impact rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas, especially in urban settings where drainage is inadequate.
Forecasters indicate that repeated rainfall along a stalled frontal boundary is likely through Friday night. A moist atmosphere will facilitate high rain rates, with widespread rainfall expected between 1 to 3 inches. Certain areas could receive up to 5 inches or more, raising the potential for flash flooding.
Residents are advised to monitor later forecasts for updated warnings and to take precautions if flooding develops.
