Driver Arrested After DWI Crash Fatality Near Sarcoxie
JASPER COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) – A DWI-related crash resulted in one fatality and serious injuries on Tiger Road, north of Newton Road, Thursday evening at 6:55 p.m.
According to authorities, a 2019 Dodge Charger driven by 41-year-old William Kelly from Granby, Mo., lost control at a high speed, overturned, and came to rest in a field. Kelly suffered serious injuries and was transported via MedFlight to Mercy Joplin. A 38-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Coroner James Harrison.
A child, age not specified, and another male passenger in the Charger were unharmed.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU) is conducting an investigation. Witnesses reported that the vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned multiple times.
Following the incident, Kelly was arrested and faces charges of Felony DWI resulting in death, Child Endangerment in the second degree, Failure to Secure a Child (under 16), and Careless & Imprudent Driving. He was released to seek medical treatment for his injuries, with future court dates still pending.
Emergency services included Sarcoxie Fire, Jasper County Deputies, and EMS. No lane closures or additional traffic disruptions were reported.
