Motorcyclist Killed in Lawrence County Accident on US 385

Lawrence County, South Dakota (July 20, 2023) – A 21-year-old male motorcycle rider was killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Lawrence County.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the fatal motorcycle Crash occurred Wednesday afternoon, July 19, on US 385 near mile maker 115.

The rider was riding his 2019 Indian motorcycle north on US 385 at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve and laid the bike onto its side.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and slid underneath a pickup operated by a 63-year-old man going in the opposite direction.

The pickup came to a stop with the motorcycle driver beneath it.

The rider, wearing a helmet during the crash, was declared dead.

The pickup driver sustained no injuries.

More details regarding the incident were not available.

The SDHP is investigating the collision.
