Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Route 1 in Hancock, Friday at 9:45 PM.
According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, emergency crews responded to the collision. The operator of the motorcycle, 29-year-old Richard Ryan of Hancock, was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver was not injured.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation. Authorities are seeking witnesses who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and are encouraged to contact the Bangor Regional Communications Center at 207-973-3700, requesting Trooper Bagley.
This incident marks one of multiple motorcycle fatalities in Maine this month. So far in 2023, the Maine Department of Transportation reports approximately 20 motorcycle deaths statewide.
Earlier Friday, another accident occurred along Route 1 in Hancock near Peaslee Road, which caused traffic disruptions for a time.
