CRAIG, Alaska – Two teenagers died following a dirt bike collision on Prince of Wales Island on July 11, 2023.
Alaska State Troopers confirmed that 18-year-old Greyer Schwegel and 17-year-old Paul Lingley IV were involved in the crash, which occurred during an outing with friends. The collision was reportedly a head-on crash.
Emergency responders pronounced both victims deceased at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
Lingley IV was scheduled to begin his senior year at Klawock High School this August. He was remembered by his father as a dedicated student-athlete who loved basketball and supported his family, particularly his younger siblings.
Greyer Schwegel’s family described him as generous and thoughtful. Both families have received an outpouring of support from the community, with local organizations offering grief support.
Craig City School District officials announced plans to provide additional support services to affected students and families. The First Presbyterian Church also hosted a grief support group for the community.
The Lingley family emphasized the importance of safety when riding bikes, urging others to remember their son as a kind and hardworking individual.
