DENVER — A man has been charged with vehicular homicide following a fatal hit-and-run motorcycle crash in southwest Denver on Saturday night.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., police responded to reports of a motorcyclist struck at West Hampden Avenue and South Sheridan Boulevard. Upon arrival, they found the victim, a 40-year-old woman, lying in the roadway; she was transported to Swedish Medical Center but later succumbed to her injuries.
Nathan Eastman, 40, was arrested the following day, charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Investigators interviewed multiple witnesses, including motorcyclists who were riding with the victim. A rear-facing camera from one of the motorcycles captured the incident, showing the victim riding westbound when Eastman’s vehicle passed too closely. The footage reportedly shows Eastman’s vehicle moving closer before the motorcycle was struck from behind.
Authorities described the victim and her motorcycle sliding down the roadway as the suspect’s vehicle, identified as a red Audi with a bike rack, maneuvered around them before fleeing the scene. Witnesses indicated that there were several close encounters between the Audi and the victim prior to the collision.
A nearby officer spotted a vehicle matching the suspect’s description shortly after the crash. It was traced to Eastman, who was later identified at his residence. Officers noted a distinct tire mark on the car consistent with a motorcycle collision.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, Eastman contacted Denver’s non-emergency line, but details of that conversation were not disclosed. He was interviewed later that day, and while part of his statements were redacted, an officer believed he was “mostly” honest while omitting certain details.
