GIRDWOOD, Alaska—Three people were killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle on the Seward Highway on May 25.
Officers from the Anchorage Police Department (APD) responded to the collision near mile 80 at approximately 3:41 p.m. They discovered a Subaru Crosstrek engulfed in flames and confirmed two fatalities within the vehicle.
The deceased have been identified as 56-year-old Cong Xue and 54-year-old Xiu You. The motorcyclist, 22-year-old Brian Padgett, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Family members have been notified.
The crash prompted the closure of the Seward Highway for several hours between Portage and Girdwood. The highway reopened by 11 p.m. on the same day.
The Major Collision Investigation Unit is currently leading the investigation. Authorities are requesting any witnesses who have not yet provided statements or who may have video footage from the area to reach out to APD via email.
