GILLETTE, Wyo. — One person is dead and another injured following a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 14/16 on July 3.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling east near mile post 61.6 when the rear tire went flat, causing the driver to lose control. Both riders were wearing helmets and were ejected from the motorcycle upon impact.
Alta Davis, 52, a passenger, sustained multiple injuries, including broken bones and brain damage. She was airlifted to a Billings hospital, underwent surgery, and died on July 13, as confirmed by family members. Her husband, Denton Davis, was transported to a Gillette emergency room with rib injuries and a small brain bleed. He was later transferred to Billings to be closer to Alta and has since been released.
The couple was reportedly en route to South Dakota at the time of the accident. Alta was known for her work as a teacher at Early Head Start and had extensive experience as a daycare and preschool provider.
A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family.
The incident remains under investigation.
