ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A motorcycle accident on April 18, 2024, left Mingo Graham, 17, paralyzed below the waist after striking a pole at high speed.
Graham was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. He sustained a broken C6 vertebra and was in a coma for several months before waking up at Stanford University.
Isolation During Recovery
After being transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Anchorage, Graham spent eight months largely confined to his room before he began building Lego sets as a form of therapy.
His creations include an extensive collection, beginning with a Lego replica of the motorcycle he was riding during the crash.
Finding Purpose
Graham states that building Lego sets has provided motivation and a renewed sense of purpose. He has expressed how these activities help lift his spirits during challenging times.
“People are often surprised by my positive attitude,” Graham said.
