A motorcycle operator died early Sunday following a collision with a deer in Ann Arbor, according to authorities.
Officers responded at approximately 12:50 a.m. to Jackson Avenue near Worden Avenue. They discovered a 20-year-old man from Ann Arbor with critical injuries.
Medics transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
Preliminary investigations indicate the motorcyclist was heading east on Jackson Avenue when he struck a deer, resulting in the crash.
In 2023, the Michigan State Police reported a total of 3,056 motorcycle accidents statewide, reflecting a 3% decrease from the previous year. Motorcycle-related fatalities also saw a decline, from 173 in 2022 to 165 in 2023.
State police data indicated 58,806 deer-involved crashes occurred in Michigan during 2023, down from 58,984 in 2022. Fatal deer-related accidents rose from 11 in 2022 to 19 in 2023.
