VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A motorcycle accident on Virginia Beach Boulevard led to a fatality on Saturday afternoon, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.
The crash occurred around 12:55 p.m. in the 3700 block, involving a motorcycle and another vehicle. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital.
Nicholas Rizzotti, 21, later succumbed to his injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries, authorities said.
Investigators determined that Rizzotti was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at a red light, colliding with the other vehicle turning eastbound onto Virginia Beach Boulevard.
As a result of the incident, Virginia Beach Boulevard was closed between Rosemont Road and Lynn Shores Drive, but all lanes have since reopened.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to police.
