1 injured, power pole damaged in North Omaha crash early Friday
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – One person was injured in a crash involving a vehicle and a power pole near 66th Street and Ames Avenue just after 3 a.m. Friday.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, according to Police dispatch. The collision caused damage to both the car and the power pole.
Motorcyclist in northwest Omaha crash dies; SUV driver in custody
A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV in northwest Omaha early Thursday, authorities confirmed. The crash occurred near 144th and Corby streets at approximately 12:23 a.m.
The motorcyclist, a 38-year-old man, was taken to CUMC-Bergan Mercy, where he was pronounced dead. Police reported that the SUV driver, 31-year-old Bailey Burr, is in custody and suspected of involvement in the potential use of alcohol during the incident.
Man accused in Omaha crash that killed 2 boys faces more charges
The man charged in a crash that killed two young boys will face additional felony charges, according to Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine. Tanner Hunt is already facing charges including motor vehicle homicide and DUI after the death of 10-year-old Prestin.
Kleine announced intentions to add charges after the recent death of 5-year-old Zaiden. Hunt remains jailed on a $10 million bond.
Nebraska Task Force One to aid flood rescue efforts in Texas
Nebraska Task Force One is deploying Friday to assist with flood rescue operations in Texas, where recent flooding has resulted in at least two fatalities. The team consists of around 45 members, primarily from the Omaha metro area.
Once in San Antonio, the crew will receive specific assignments and is authorized to operate in Texas for up to two weeks.
UNMC opens new student housing; Creighton soccer hosts camp
The University of Nebraska Medical Center is opening new student housing with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 11 a.m. Two events are taking place Friday, including an abilities camp for children hosted by Creighton University’s soccer program.
The new UNMC Residences will support students in the Scott Scholars program, while the soccer event will occur at Morrison Stadium from 9 to 11 a.m.
Ewing welcoming inaugural Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council
Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. will welcome the inaugural members of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council Friday afternoon at a meet and greet event.
The initiative involves 58 students from 28 different schools working to address local issues. The council plans to meet monthly, starting in July. The event is scheduled from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Columbus Park Community Center.
