Rider Killed, 4 Injured in U.S 101 Four-Vehicle Accident in Thurston County

Thurston County, Washington (July 13, 2023) – A motorcyclist was killed, and four other people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on U.S. 101 in Thurston County Wednesday afternoon, according to a police report.
The deadly crash, which involved a motorcycle and three other vehicles, happened just before 1 p.m. near Mud Bay Road.
Washington State Patrol say the motorcycle operator was slowing for traffic in lane one of the highway, when he was struck by a Chevy pickup truck driven by a 41-year-old Rochester man. The bike then collided with a Nissan hatchback which in turn crashed into a Honda SUV.
The 46-year-old male rider from Olympai sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 40-year-old Yelm man, a 44-year-old McKenna man, a 23-year-old Yelm man, and a 55-year-old man from Virginia were injured in the crash. All four patients were in the Nissan Hatchback.
The driver of the Honda and that of the Chevy were not injured in the incident.
The roadway was shut down for 2 hours and 44 minutes as crews worked to clear the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
