Motorcyclist killed in Windham crash; driver faces OUI charges.

A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Route 302 in Windham on Wednesday night, and a driver has been charged with OUI.

The crash occurred around 7:07 p.m. in the 850 block of Route 302, according to Windham Police. Authorities said Chad Jordan, 45, of Westbrook was driving a 2016 white GMC pickup truck in an erratic manner when he struck a 2010 Honda Odyssey.

After colliding with the Odyssey, the pickup continued south in the northbound lane, hitting a motorcycle traveling properly in its lane. Police stated the motorcycle caught fire upon impact, resulting in the death of the operator, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Witnesses reported that the motorcycle’s rider, a woman, was thrown from the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. A video shared with local media showed the burning motorcycle as bystanders observed the crash during a group ride.

Authorities indicated that impairment is believed to be a primary factor in the incident. Jordan has been charged with Operating Under the Influence and is being held at the Cumberland County Jail.

Windham Police Chief Kevin Schofield noted that additional charges may be forthcoming pending further investigation and a review by the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office. The department recently received a $40,000 grant aimed at enhancing traffic enforcement.
