KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A head-on collision on Parvin Road claimed the lives of two drivers Sunday evening, prompting calls for traffic safety improvements.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of NE 42nd Street. According to the Kansas City Police, a Silver Mitsubishi traveling east crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Ford Transit. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that community members acted quickly to rescue children from the vehicles involved. Emergency responders were dispatched to provide medical aid, though no reported injuries among the children were confirmed.
Authorities indicated that this intersection has seen multiple fatal accidents in recent months, with two fatalities reported since July. Neighbors expressed concerns about speeding and a recent lane configuration that includes bike lanes, which they believe exacerbates danger.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and police have not released the identities of the deceased drivers. Community members are also raising funds for memorials in honor of the victims.
In a separate incident over the weekend, another crash on Truman Road resulted in the death of a passenger. Authorities reported that 66 traffic fatalities have occurred in Kansas City this year, surpassing last year’s numbers.
