WAROFSKY, NY— A pursuit by Warsaw Police resulted in a fatal crash on Route 20A at 8:22 a.m. on May 2, 2025.
According to authorities, a Blue BMW led officers westbound on West Buffalo Street before crashing in the Town of Orangeville. Minutes later, the vehicle struck a 2015 Nissan Rogue head-on after losing control around a curve.
The 48-year-old driver of the Nissan, James Stablewski of East Aurora, was critically injured and transported to ECMC. His passenger, 48-year-old Daniel Abbott of Lancaster, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wyoming County Coroner. Sanny Dewan, 19, of Buffalo, the BMW’s driver, succumbed to injuries shortly after arriving at Wyoming County Community Hospital.
Emergency responders, including the WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE and NEW YORK STATE POLICE, extinguished the BMW, which had caught fire, and extracted Dewan from the wreckage. The crash led to temporary lane closures and significant traffic disruption.
The investigation remains active, focusing on whether the BMW was a stolen vehicle. The NEW YORK STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE is also involved, as is standard protocol for civilian fatalities linked to police activity.
Assistance at the scene included the WARSAW POLICE DEPARTMENT, WARSAW FIRE DEPARTMENT, and other local emergency services.
