LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Kimberly Skaggs, 54, treasurer of the Republican Party of New Mexico, was arrested for a fatal hit-and-run crash on June 22.
Authorities said Skaggs faces felony charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality and tampering with evidence. She was taken into custody on June 24 and is currently held without bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
The incident occurred on Fairacres Road, where a bicyclist was struck and killed. Witnesses reported the driver fled the scene. Police utilized traffic cameras and other investigative methods to identify a black Cadillac Escalade as the vehicle involved. The vehicle was located at Skaggs’ residence, where damage consistent with the crash was observed.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details about the victim have been released at this time. Following her arrest, Skaggs’ profile was removed from the party’s official website.
