Motorcyclist Killed in Sampson County Crash Wednesday Afternoon
A motorcyclist died in a collision with an SUV on NC-55 in Sampson County on Wednesday, shortly after 12:06 p.m.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the SUV was traveling west on NC-55 and attempted a U-turn when the motorcycle was approaching from behind a pilot vehicle involved in roadway construction.
As the pilot vehicle slowed, the motorcyclist passed it and accelerated, striking the SUV. Authorities stated the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and died at the scene.
The driver of the SUV moved off the roadway post-collision, while the motorcycle halted on the right shoulder.
Witnesses reported the incident to the Highway Patrol, which is still investigating the crash. The identities of those involved have not been released. Lane closures were in effect during the response and investigation.
